Essa Faal, lead prosecutor of Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) has accused former Director General of The Gambia Prison Services, David Colley, of complicity in the alleged murder of Baba Jobe, a prisoner who mysteriously died at the hospital.
This stunning revelation was made by Essa M Faal, the TRRC Lead Counsel on Tuesday while reading from the statements of Lamin Sanneh, Colley’s personal Orderly who said he was sent to the hospital on the fateful night that Baba Jobe was allegedly murdered by the former President Yahya Jammeh’s killer squad.
“David, you are a murderer. You have participated in the murder of Baba Jobe,” said Lead Counsel Essa M Faal.
“Yes as to what you said,” David replied.
Colley 62, has not denied instructing his personal Orderly to replace the officers guarding Baba Jobe at hospital but said he had never asked him to ‘step aside’ to allow the ‘junglers’ killer squad to killed him. He said it was based on trust that the orderly was assigned to the hospital.
“Yes, you trusted him to shut up and not to reveal what had happened,” Counsel Faal fired back at him.
Lead Counsel Faal continued with Sanneh’s statement where he said that David Colley had telephoned late at night to inform him that ‘junglers’ were on their way to the hospital that he should step aside to allow them to do what they wanted to do with Baba Jobe.
“I was sent to replace Inspector Ismaila, as a sole guard to Baba Jobe who was admitted at a private block where I was with him until 11pm after a doctor’s checked when he (Baba) asked me to spray the room to chase away mosquitoes. Later, I received a telephone called around midnight from DG Colley who asked me to step aside to allow the ‘group’ to enter Baba Jobe’s room. When the ‘group’ came they asked for Baba Jobe’s room who was sleeping inside. I recognised one of them a Fula guy called ‘Oya’ who lived with me at Hamza Barracks. When they left I found that Baba’s lying position has changed and was lying flat on his back until the following morning the doctor confirmed his death and was taken to the mortuary,” excerpt from Sanneh’s statement.
This statement has been backup by the testimony given by ‘Oya’ himself who already confessed that it was him and other junglers that killed Baba Jobe. It was exactly as the orderly has explained.
