Ex-army officer urges Barrow to trust security officers

An ex- army officer has urged President Adama Barrow to trust the country’s security men and women and remove foreign forces from country’s sensitive areas.

In his Facebook post, Kawsu Sanyang said: “I think it is high time for the President to start trusting his own security forces and remove the foreign armed security from sensitive areas of the country. It is dangerous to allow foreigners into your matrimonial bedroom. The President should remember that after the presidency it is not the foreign forces that are to give him protection but our security forces.

“Trust your son and not another man’s son for if you do the end result are always catastrophic. It is a known fact that your immediate neighbour is your number one threat and allowing them into your sensitive areas is detrimental to your existence. It is more than three years now we are having the presence of foreign forces in our country.”

“We should start to open our eyes to this fact and the President should not allow people to inform him that his own securities are threat to him which I strongly oppose.  What you should have done in the first place is to win the support of your own security forces and give them what you think is due according to their terms of condition and service,” he advised.

Mr Sanyang, therefore told The Voice in a telephone interview that “I think it is just a piece of advice for the President of our country, because it is important to know the sensitivity of giving our strategic sites, as a country to foreign forces.”

Mr Sanyang was sacked in The Gambia Armed Forces in December 2018 following alleged reports of a secret audio recording of him.  It is not known when the audio was recorded and what the officer said.
