Two Gambian nationals have tested positive of the deadly coronavirus taking the country’s virus case to 57. The new cases came as the country partially opened its airspace.
“This is the 94th national situation report since the confirmation of the first case of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in The Gambia, on the 17th March 2020. 2 new cases of COVID-19 registered, bringing to 57 the total number of COVID-19 cases ever confirmed in the country.
“One of the new cases (Case 056) is a hitherto probable case who is epi-linked to confirmed case 049 (travel companion from Senegal). Case 057 tested negative for COVID-19 at the commencement of his quarantine period,” Ministry of Health said.
The Ministry added: “All but 2 of the 20 laboratory results received returned negative for COVID-19. While 117 persons were newly taken into quarantine, 6 new people have been discharged (2 transferred to the treatment centre) The newly quarantined include 6 high-risk contacts linked to cases 046 and 052 while 109 people of the newly quarantined are the new arrivals into the country by an SN Brussels flight.
“The remaining 2 are individuals who were picked from different locations on account of recently coming from countries where local transmission is ongoing. The country currently has 464 people in quarantine; 28 active and 5 probables.”
