Barrow appoints Noah Touray as Gambia’s new Secretary General

Noah Touray has been appointed by President Adama Barrow as the country’s new Secretary General and Head of Civil Service.

He replaced Muhammed BS Jallow who spent only nine months in the position.
However, many Gambians on social media critised Barrow’s administration over Touray’s appointment as they said Barrow is undermining struggle of the country by appointing close associates of former President Yahya AJJ Jammeh.

A probe into the financial dealing of Jammeh and his close associates – Janneh Commission – found Mr Touray and dozens other people under Jammeh’s 22-year rule of authorising withdrawal of public funds.

He served as Cabinet Secretary under Jammeh’s regime. His appointment came two days after Eid-al Fitr prayer as Muslims celebrated the day under lockdown restrictions to help curb spread of a deadly coronavirus pandemic which has killed thousands around the world and infected millions.
