Commercial drivers in Greater Banjul Areas are still not content with the current reduction of the fuel price as recently announced by the government.

April 30th The Gambia government reduced prices of fuel which include petrol, diesel and kerosene still dozens of commercial drivers said the reduction is not yet in effect because they are not experiencing the reduction.

Babucarr Bah, a van driver said: “the price of the fuel should be reduced more because we are still carrying half passengers of the capacity of the vehicle.”
He added that even though the price of fuel is reduced the way vehicles consume fuel are quite different.

According to him, some vehicles can make two trips with five litres of fuel while some vehicles only take one trip, adding “we normally earn less than D200 from a trip and if we buy D200 of 5liter fuel we have no profit.”

He explained that the reason why they added D2 or 3 to the normal fare is because they earned less than D200 on a trip.

He therefore urged government to still reduce the price of the fuel more.
Famara Dibba said “the reduction from the pump price still not favour us as we are carrying fewer passengers.”

“We understand it is because of the outbreak of this deadly disease that is why the number of the passengers is reduced yet government need to double its effort to help commercial drivers,” he added.
