The United Democratic Party (UDP) has recently revoked the expulsion of the embattled Brikama Area Council Chairman including the two other councillors of Sanyang and Nema-Kunku Wards respectively.

Sheriffo Sonko, Momodou Bojang and Bilal Faal were last month expelled from the UDP party as members following an alleged allegation of their disloyalty to the party as they are rendering political support to Presidents Barrow’s formed National People’s Party (NPP).

In a letter signed by the party senior administrative secretary general Lamin N. Dibba, dated 27th April, 2020 and copied to the chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission IEC said: “I acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated 17th April, 2020 which was based on your expulsion as members from the United Democratic Party (UDP).

“The national executive of the party has directed me to inform you that it has for the time being rescinded the decision to expel you from the party. Please be informed that the matter of your expulsion from the party is now referred to the central committee from which you may hear in due course,” the letter stated.

The embattled BAC Chairman Sonko including two other ward councillors according to reliable sources were also served with their individual copies of the letters to attend the party’s central committee’s meeting where their fate to remain as members of the UDP party will be decided.

The sources further stated that procedures taken by the party to expelled Sheriffo Sonko and the two ward councillors was not in line with rules and regulations as stated by law when it comes to expulsion. He added that the party must refer the issue to the party’s central committee for a final decision.

The Voice in an attempt to reach the spokesperson of the party AlmamiFandingTaal for more details via telephone was futile up till the time of press.
