Gunjur, a coastal town in Kombo South last Friday announced the suspension of all congregational prayers amid coronavirus pandemic.

This announcement come days after President Barrow banned public gathering and shut down of schools and Universities to contain the spread. The Gambia last Tuesday registered first case of the virus in the country, as a 28-year-old Gambian lady who came from UK called the health officer to report her health condition.

Meanwhile on Friday, Imam Ratib Muhammed Lamin Touray said “We are currently confused regarding the recent government banned on public gathering. This has to be cleared in a written form as whether both mosques and churches are included, because these are all places for public gathering.”

“Of course many mosques have performed congregational prayers and where different people already had a close contact. So, I think government should come with better explanation regarding ban on public gathering,” Buba Bojang said rhetorically.

Despite one recorded case of the virus in the country, there is already fear that more people might have contacted the deadly disease without showing any form or signs and symptoms coronavirus yet.
