NAM Report on New Committees formed by NA

Majority Leader of the National Assembly Member, Hon. Kebba K. Barrow on Monday presented a report of the committee on selection on the nomination of membership to the following committees of the National Assembly; Public Petition Committee and Subsidiary Legislation Committee.

Hon. Barrow during his presentations said, “The nominations were made in accordance with closest, 96A 116 and 117 of the standing orders of the National Assembly.”

The Kombo South lawmaker, pointed out that, attention might be drawn to the august Assembly that the Standing Committees were established by the Standing Orders revised edition 2019 and came into force in November 2019.

“The Standing Orders 116 and 117 gave the Committee of Selection the mandate to nominate membership to these committees as provided for the Standing Order 96,” he added.

According to him, the Committee of Selection has been conveying on Monday 6 January 2020 considered and resolved to nominate the following memberships to constitute the two committees.

He added that under Public Petition Committee, Hon. Sunkarr Badjie was identified as the Chairperson, Hon. Dawda Kawsu Jawara as the Vice Chairperson, Hon. Fatou K. Jawara Member, Hon. Lamin Conta Member and Hon. Suwaibu Touray Member.

“For the subsidiary Legislation Committee, Hon. Alagie S. Darboe was identified as the Chairperson, Hon. Halifa Sallah Vice Chairperson, Hon. Bakary Njie, Hon. Muhammed Ndow, Hon. Kebba Jallow, and Hon Kaddy Camara, Hon. Ousaman Touray, and Hon Bakary Njie are all members,” he said.

The power and mandate of these committees, he disclosed, are prescribed in clauses 116 and 117 of the Standing Orders of the National Assembly 2019 Edition.

Hon. Barrow said the committees are mandated to use background information on the membership, political pluralism and gender representation as methodologies.

According to him the Committee of Selection is mandated by the Standing Orders to select members of parliament into various committees and looking at the document before them under the powers and responsibility clear listed under clause 116 and 117 of Standing Orders of the National Assembly of 2019 edition.

In addition, he said the committees were also guided and supported by the office of the clerk, during the process.
