GSB Officials to vote on four standards as halal

Technical committee of Gambia Standards Bureau are expected to vote on standards deemed halal [legal].

And the four includes OIC/SMIIC confirm to assessment on the certification of halal skill for halal product, distribution of general requirement for bodies operating certification of person involving in halal activities, the general requirement for the competent of laboratory performance for halal testing and the general requirement for province testing for halal proposes

Speaking at a press briefing Papa Secka Director General of Gambia Standards Bureau said the national standards bureau so as the Gambia standard most at higher rate has their procedure to ensure that there deliverable especial the standard development process is accordance with the international procedure and requirement.

“The Gambia standard bureaus are representing the Gambia as we are participating in many technical committees particularly on technical committees on halal food issue,” he added.

According to him they are ensuring that international procedures are follow properly as the first standard work has been done so many years in many part of the world.

Dr. Abdoulkhadri Sillah Chirman of Halal Committee said the committee will try their best to differentiate things as we know that something may be Halal but during the process it may change to Haram.

“It is very important to know things that are forbidden thing and avoiding them are part of worship adding that If Allah said you shouldn’t do something and you prevent yourself from that you will be rewarded,” he alluded.

This committee is very important as it contain stakeholders, scholars and other sets from many part of the country, he pointed.

Momodou Mass Jobe Representative of Gambia Poultry Farmers’ Cooperative said; “Whatever we are doing as Muslim we are looking at the pleasure of god (Allah) citing that in some country during the process of killing animals they don’t slaughter  them, it is done through the process of the machines which is not Islamic.”

According to him what is halal is good for everyone it doesn’t matter whether you are a Muslim or not as they are looking at the safety of the food.

“If we rely want to have control of what is halal and non halal food, we have to start producing our own food,” he said.

However, the Technical Committee is responsible for the adoption and development of the national standards for halal products, services and systems since its inception in 2014 the Committee has reviewed and published three national halal standards.
