Omar Bojang, the chairman of Bakoteh-based child rights organization recently called for more protection of Gambian children against all sorts of abuse and exploitation.
Mr. Bojang, the board chairman of the centre for Street Children and Child Trafficking Studies (CSCACTS) made the clarion call during a workshop recently organized by the centre held at its offices housed within the Home for the Elderly complex under Social Welfare Department situated in Bakoteh Layout.
CSCACTS, a non–profit organization dedicated to protect, care, support and provide information through research on vulnerable, trafficked and street children recently held a workshop on the following theme: “Carrier Counseling,” “How young people should deal with psycho-socio problems” and “Talk on Inspirational leadership” at the center’s office.
Chairman Bojang delving on the theme: “How young people should deal with psycho-socio problems”, stressed the need and importance for teenagers to be protected against the twin problems of trafficking with its attendant modern-day slavery, unwanted pregnancy, exploitation among others. “You know you protect your phones and other gadgets by having codes for them, so also so our boys and girls should have codes (protection) against exploitation, unwanted pregnancy and other problems,” he told the gathering consisting of young boys and girls, most of them students.
Meanwhile, the workshop was moderated by Momodou L Jaiteh, the coordinator of CSCACTS who advised the youth to make New Year resolutions as well as develop personal visions as they journey into life and the cruel world. He also told the gathering to love books and read inspirational literature such as Science of Success written by Napoleon Hill.
