Three Governors Raise concern over unsustainability of projects

Three governors have raised concern over unsustainability of numerous projects that are hanging without completion.

The three include Abba Sanyang Central River Region, Abba Sanyang governor of Upper River Region, Fanta Samateh Manneh governor of Lower River Region Rohey John Manjang.

Expressed the manner in which project are implemented at the regional ground.

The governors made the concerns during the regional launching of 26.81m US Dollars loan project funded by the Islamic Development Bank and the Government of the Gambia.

The project which was long awaited has now been launched both nationally and regionally. The project is expected to last for four years and is covering 39 districts across the country.

The project also targets to reached at 30,000 households across the country.  The project aims to discourage livestock owners to travel to the nearest countries like Mali and Senegal to import small ruminants during Tobaski Feast.

During the launching from various regions of the country the Governor described the project as very vibrant and was long overdue, adding that this is the first time the Gambia is benefiting from such a magnitude project purely on livestock.

The Governors said there are many projects that come to the Gambia and after their period everything collapse due to lack of sustainability in place.

The pray and hope that this livestock project which is the small ruminant production Enhancement project which be a different one. The Governors went on to praised the Government of the Gambia and the Islamic development Bank through the ministry of Agriculture for ensuring that the Gambian farmers benefit from this livestock.

The Governor also challenged both the farmers and the implementers in partnership with the project management team to ensure measures as put in place for its sustainability and the success of the project.

The Governors also urged the Project management not to compromise with the implementation of this project.

The Governors were quick to call on the need for speedy implementation or disbursement of the project.

The said Governor emphasized that with this project expectation are high from the farmers, and they believe that with the quality leadership of this project surely it will be one of the leading success project in this country. The Governors also seized the opportunity to  call on the need for honesty, transparency, and accountability  in the implementation of this project. The Governor also emphasized the need to involve the grassroots people in the implementation process.
