Former media Chairperson for the 2016 coalition presidential election has refuted comments that alleged the non-existence of a coalition government adding the spirit of the coalition still survives.
Enssa Dampha in an interview with The Voice at his base in Brikama said the President who has came into power through a coalition ticket including the agreement of 7 other political parties is still serving under the mandate as a coalition President.
“People need to realize that the spirit of 2016 Presidential coalition still exists because the President is a coalition President he came to power through a coalition ticket and that mandate still exists”.
“We have just seen a recent convergence of majority coalition parties who have discussed and agreed for the extension of the President’s term to 5 five years in office so that within that duration he can complete the assigned duties enshrined in coalition MOU. So the coalition MOU was reviewed and agreed to extend the mandate of the President and this is simply telling us that the coalition government is still in existence, “he said
He said the mandate of the 2016 coalition government will end in year 2021 were all parties vying for the Presidency will be given a free political environment to contest the election while adding that which cannot also stop the President rights to register his party and compete for the coming election.
“The coalition government will end its mandate in 2021 as it has already being given an extension term to a 5 year. If there was no extension of the coalition mandate to 5 five year by majority of coalition parties then one can say there is no existence of a coalition government, “he said
Further speaking he said the recent registered National People’s Party (NPP) formed by the president has the clear chance of winning the 2021 presidential election in a land slid victory adding as majority of political parties lose their electorates to the party.
“We have 95% of winning the upcoming presidential elections considering the number of majority supporters from different political parties who have now joined the NPP,”he said
