GRCS gets new executive

Gambia Red Cross Society on Sunday gets a new executive made up of president, vice president and the treasurer who would run affairs of the organisation till next general election.

The 3-day assembly election brought together officials of regional branches who scrutinised 3 years activity reports of the out-going executive.

Jato S. Sillah, President of Gambia Red Cross Society said: “With your abilities, temperaments and propensities play a central role in informing and reforming your behaviors, aspiration and achievement.”

Mr. Sillah urged the youth to make a choice which will be an objective decision, a decision that will not cripple the destiny of their future leaders.

“I therefore challenge the Gambians to genuinely appreciate the work of the various volunteers and as well call on all Gambians to ensure their full protection”, he pleaded.

Secretary general of Gambia Red Cross Society Alasan Senghore said: “the 3 days is well spending and the image of the Red Cross has already grown up” adding “we have increased their budget from 29 million to 49 million, by 20 million noting that they have increase their program portfolio.”

He said they have new projects like health, adding ‘we are also starting the health care strengthen project, which is a 7million Dollar 5-year project.’

He said their achievements included construction of 15 community garden, adding they had 10 in Upper River Region (URR) and 5 in lower River Regional (LRR) with solar reticulation boreholes supporting 75 women with livelihood activities in kiang.

He urged government to empower the Red Cross because ‘they created the Red Cross as an act of parliament.’

Ensa Sanneh, regional delegate for West Africa Italian Red Cross, described the 2-day general Assembly as key, noting that he has seen how the Gambia Red Cross is striving.

“West African Italian Red Cross will continue to build partnership with the Gambian Red Cross Society”, he said.
