4H The Gambia Trains 18 farmers on Tie & Dye and Batik

4H the Gambia a local NGO based in Farafenni recently organized three days training workshop for 18 farmers on Tie & Dye and Batik as part of it efforts in building resilience on climate change.

The three days training on Tie & Dye for 18 farmers brought together participants nine communities in Upper Baddibou and Jokadou.

The capacity development is part of a 12 months Global Environment Facility small grant project dubbed promoting women enterprise development to mitigate effects of climate change.

The training aims to empower women enterprise development through skills acquisitions at community levels with particular focus on women and youths.  The training was held in Farafenni in the north bank region.

Alieu Ceesay, National Director of 4H The Gambia stressed on the important the organization attaches in strengthen human resource development to improve life and livelihood.

He said the partnership with GEF contributed   to   skills training on of Moringa and Wax Soap to boost economic and combat skin infections, noting   it also contributed to change the attitude of women and most of the trainees took it as source of livelihood.

Kaddy Suso Community Development Assistant and lead trainer, described capacity development and skill acquisitions among women as key   empowerment for youths and women to actively participate in socio economic development.

She said Department of Community Development value working with partners in transferring knowledge and skills that would contribute to improve socio economic wellbeing of rural inhabitants.

Madam Suso said acquisition of skills calls for positive behavior change by women, noting that training on off farm activities would strengthen capacity on skills development.

 

She revealed that the project will support to establish seven women enterprises in the area of Moringa Soap and Body Cream in Upper Baddibou and Jokadou districts to help women skills that will contribute to reduce pressure on the forest.

Awa Sarr lead trainer noted that the training will help women to develop skills and knowledge and become self-reliant.

She noted Moringa and Bees Wax Soap are very useful to fight against skin infections and pimples, calling   on women to diversify in to productive sector of the economy, noting there is high demand on the market for the products.

Beneficiary villages in Jokadou include Memmeh, Kerr Omar Saine, Kaba Koto and Kerr Ngor and whilst in Upper Baddibou Kubandar, Kerr biran, Galoya, Konteh Kunda Niji and Konteh Kunda Sukoto all in the north bank region.
