Musa Sonko, former Gambian Ambassador to Guinea Bissau has instituted a lawsuit against Attorney General and Ministry of Foreign Affairs for ‘unlawful termination’, claiming six million dalasi for damages.
Lamin LK Mboge, his legal counsel told The Voice that: “The lawsuit is filed against the Attorney General and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after we exhausted all necessary means to get compensated for all his dues. The Ministry of of Foreign Affairs just abruptly recall my clients from the mission without explanations and compensations”
He explained that the matter is now before the court and will proceed at the High court immediately High Court Judges come from vacation. He said his client case has been filed at the Registry of Courts and will be assigned to a Judge by October.
The former Ambassador is claiming D78, 270, D236 educational allowances for four children, D70, 434 for 84days pending allowances, D236, 880 pending gratuities for domestic staff, D70, 434 pending travel allowances, D150, 000 travel cost for him and his entire family from Guinea Bissau, D236, 880 for salaries of domestic staff that was blocked by the deputy mission among other demands.
It could be recalled that Musa Sonko was appointed as head of Gambian mission in Guinea Bissau with accreditation to Cape Verde and Guinea Conakry on the 17th October, 2017 but was unceremoniously recall on 2nd November 2018 upon serving one year five months at the mission.
Until his appointment Musa Sonko has been serving as the Sonko is the deputy party leader of the National Reconciliation Party (NRP) and also Co-Chairperson of the Coalition 2016 that defeated ex-president Yahya Jammeh’s government and voyted President Adama Barrow in to power on December 2,2016.
Diplomatic sources hinted that the former Ambassador was sacked after revealing a serious financial fraud at the mission by his predecessors.
Sources added: “Sonko got his marching out orders after revealing the financial fraud that transpired at the Gambian Embassy Bissau.”
