A former crew member of the Junglers Lamin Badjie has denied taking part in any killing but accepted to have worked with members of the former President Jammeh’s death squad.

Mr Badjie said he and other two Police Officers – Momodou I Busso and Lamin Sambou were inducted into the Gambia Armed Forces in 2012 after completing VIP training, saying they were selected out of over 40 Police personnel whom had undergone the VIP training

Mr. Badjie was arrested in 2017 by the Barrow-led government and detained for sixteen months before his released.

Testifying before the Truth Reconciliation and Reparation Commission on Tuesday, Mr Badjie denied taking part in any killings done by the Junglars.

He told the Truth Commission that: “I have never participated in neither killing nor torture.  I am not a Jungular because you would be a jungular when you did the training and I didn’t undergone any of it (jungular) training.”

He told the Commission that he went with Junglers into the range where the nine inmates were cold bloodedly murdered by the members of the Jammeh’s hit men but didn’t take part in any of their killings, adding that he saw the death bodies lying on the ground at the rang in a bush in Cassamance.

Mr. Badjie told the Commission that: “Nyabally told me we took a nylon bag and put them over their head and suffocate them to death-the n I asked him why didn’t you use your pistols and he replied me then the blood would have been too much –he told me that we have killed them all in the car by suffocating them to death.”
