Foreign Ministry Staff Retreat Wraps Up

The first-ever staff retreat since the dawn of the new era for Foreign Ministry staff on Sunday August 4rd, 2019 wrapped up at a local hotel in Kololi with a view to improving the Ministry’s administrative reforms and also put in place good governance mechanisms for efficient and effective service delivery.

“This will breed efficiency and effectiveness in the service delivery of staff,” said Foreign Minister Dr. Mamadou Tangara during his opening statement adding that the retreat would enable staff identify limitations, strength and map-out way forward for the realisation of the country’s Foreign Policy.

Dr. Tangara said Foreign Ministry being the mirror of the country deserves best brains thus making it crucial to review the entire staff situation. He emphasised the readiness of the Ministry to further build the capacity of its finest brains as well as retain them. He urged Foreign Service Officers at the Retreat to work assiduously with honesty in rendering service to the nation noting the need to redouble efforts during the Retreat in a bid to lay a foundation for reliable and effective Foreign Service.

The Resource persons were drawn from the Accountant General Chambers, Personnel Management Office, Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs and the Directorate of Treasury. During Day one, presentations were made on the Civil Service Reform Programme, Civil Service Capacity Building Programme, discussion on recruitment of personnel for Foreign Ministry, review and finalisation of the Foreign Service Rules among others.

The Second Day entailed discussions on policy and administrative related matters. Staff made thorough review of the Ministry’s Strategic Plan 2018 – 2022; the Retreat wrapped-up with a presentation of the Retreat Report and adoption by the Ministry.
