Darboe: ‘Our Political Differences make us Enemies’

 

The Ward Councilor for Kembujeh has urged that   political differences between the people should not in any way promote enmity between the people of his community and outside.

Councilor Alieu K Darboe made the remarks at the end of a daylong sensitization forum on Advocacy, Dialogue on Decentralised Governance Structures to Address Barriers Participation and Establishment Mechanism in Ensuring Inclusion of Women, Youth and Vulnerable Population at Brikama Missira recently.

“Safeguarding a peaceful community is the duty of all, because we cannot be living together and   allowed our political differences to divide us,” he said.

He told the participants that the beauty of democracy is for people to come out and express their feelings in accordance with the laws and it also allows people to join and support any party of their choices as enshrined Constitution.

Darboe emphasized that he contested under the UDP ticket as a candidate, but today he is in this office to serve everyone irrespective of race, religion, colour and party affiliations saying that his main mandate is to bring unity, development, oneness, peace and stability to the door steps of the people he is serving.

“I have an open door policy which includes all more especially my opponents as I have been inviting them in any functions of the ward as we’ll as co-opting them in the ward development committee just to promote oneness and unity among us,” he noted.

He stressed that it is time to come together and partake in the development of the ward which is not only the responsibility of the councilor, NAM, village heads, but it is a collective responsibility of all to come under one roof to envy the development we all yearning.

“This forum has given us all the opportunities to focus on the promotion of peace and unity as no society can register development in the absence of peace, unity, oneness so I am appealing to everyone including myself to always keep the peace and tranquility which has been the norm of our mighty ward,”  he charged.
