National Assembly Select Committee on government monitoring project visited over $35 million Banjul project as part of their oversight public scrutinizing on 1st July, 2019.
The committee also visited D39 Million and D21 million Banjul City Council (BCC) project of road, drainage and youth multi-purpose centre.
Hon. Sulayman Saho, chairman of the committee, who doubles as member for Upper Badibou Constituency lead the tour and inspected all road and drainage infrastructural development projects currently under way in the capital city which are currently been funded by Central government and BCC through GAMWORKS.
Katim Touray, Director of Planning and Development BCC gives a brief overview about the BCC project, adding that currently is implementing project within the BCC and among this project are the D39 million Rural Infrastructure Development Project (RIDP) funded through GAMWORKS and BCC paid a counterpart funding.
He explained that the project first face is to construct feeder roads, gutters and office building and a town Hall for the city and the second face is the D21 million youth multi-purpose centre and is also funded by GAMWORKS and BCC. According to him, the construction period for the youth centre is eight months.
“My expectation is to see that there is value for the money and the whole project in Banjul and there is smooth collaboration between BCC and the Contractors of this project”, Saho pointed out.
He said among the major concern of the committee is the drainage and gutter in Banjul and so far the committee is impressed and happy with the work project been implemented in Banjul.
He urged the community of Banjul to take ownership of this project and should desist from dumping waste on the drainage blocking water to pass.
