MAA Foundation Gives to Banjul Fish Mongers Association

Banjul Fish Mongers Association on Sunday benefitted about one hundred thousand dalasi worth of materials from MAA Foundation for Women in Banjul.

A Foundation aims to motivate women and youth to make a better life.

The donated materials include, 125 liter of liquid soap, 22 liter bleach, 20 net feel tables, 50 big pans, 10 washing buckets, 50 protective gloves, 12 toilet kettles, 30 liter liquid soap, 50 long knives and brooms.

Speaking to journalists, Ajaratou Maimuna Sonko, president of Banjul Fish Mongers Association commended the foundation for the donation, adding that it will help in long way.

“Many people promised us but they wouldn’t fulfill their promises. We lost hope until even if anyone calls us for a meeting we wouldn’t answer to it, but when Fatoumatta started to buy fish from us and saw our condition, she promised to help us. May God help her to archive her goals and aspirations,” she said.

She described the donation as first of its kind saying they have been doing the business for almost 40 years but never had such donation, adding is what they rely on with our families for survival.

She added: “We have been doing this business for almost 4o years but we never had such gift. We didn’t have toilet and tap for water usage. We do buy water in the market.”

While Njoba Jobe, public relation officer of the association also echoed similar remarks

For her part, Fatoumatta Jawara – Dukureh, founder and president of MAA Foundation, promised the Association taps and toilet and assured to continue helping the women of the Association.

“Actually, as we are talking right now, I have contacted a plumber the plumber was introduced to me by these women themselves. So we are working closely with the plumber to help them with two tap at least because they don’t have water facility here,” she said.

According to her, she was inspired by the motivation of the women and that ‘there is a lot of gap that is lacking in order to make their work a successful, ‘and commended ministry of fisheries for their support and collaboration.
