Imam Ebou Ndure, a native of Banjul based in Ireland, last Friday presented a supply of surgical and medical items worth 1.6 dalasis to Gambian main referral and teaching hospital, Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) in Banjul.
Human Appeal International and Kilkenny Islamic centre donated the materials; a charitable organisation based in Ireland.
In November 2016, Mr. Ndure, who is an Imam in Ireland, through Human Appeal International and Kilkenny Islamic centre donated two 40 foot containers of medical supply worth over 200, 000 Euros to EFSTH.
Speaking at the presentation, Imam Ndure said the supply was geared towards remedying the difficult medical situation of Gambia’s health sector.
He said as a Gambian and a native of Banjul, he felt the need and urgency to participate in the improvement of the hospital. “We cannot achieve development without a healthy nation and we cannot have a healthy nation without standard health service.”
Chief medical director of the hospital, Dr. Samateh described the donations as a development gesture, saying the hospital’s management is delighted to be associated with the charity.
He thanked Imam Ndure for the heart that he has for the country and for mobilising the supply of the materials. “These materials will go a long way in helping the hospital in the treatment of patients.”
