‘CONTANO work in URR is in line with Gambia’s NDP’

Ms. Rita Vancoillie President of CONTANO (Happiness), registered Belgian NGO in The Gambia has said the NGO work in Upper River Region (URR) in line with the country’s National Development Plan (NDP).

She made the remark in an exclusive interview with The Voice as she revealed that the her NGO signed memorandum of understanding with the Ministries of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW) and Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) in the areas of health and education.

According to her, the NGO aim to support   women group across the country through improving their lives and livelihoods in providing healthcare facilities and medical items.

“Every year we have visiting students from Belgium to URR for four months intensive program and during their four months intensive stay in the region, they do offer voluntary services to the health and education sectors in a form of capacity building of   nurses at Basse Major Health Center among others,” she said.

She revealed that currently there are fifteen (15) families in Belgium who are sponsoring fifteen (15) families in the Upper River Region (URR) in their educational career.

Our main goal is to give support to the women folk of URR in order to uplift their living condition adding that they also provided URR health facilities with medical items, she said.

Kebba Jatta, said the work of CONTANO project in URR is promising noting that the people of URR are supportive to CONTANO NGO project.

The CONTANO NGO (Happiness) medical team includes Taika Putman, Yakina Putman and Ann Dumon all are Belgium nationals.
