Family Gambia Sensitize Farato LBS on Peace Education

Family Gambia in collaboration with Peace Education Foundation Miami Florida in US recently held a day long sensitization on peace education at Farato Lower Basic School.

The sensitization attracted students, teacher and the community on peace education.

Ousman Fofana, Founder of Family Gambia, said that the day long forum was intended to dialogue with students, teacher and community on the importance of peace education.

According to him, Family Gambia was launched in collaboration with Peace Education Foundation Miami Florida U.S.A. to introduce Peace Education in schools, and to work with the community and the general public by helping children and their parent learn the attitude and skills of peace by means of its peace leaflets, peace work shop, and peace lecture to schools.

He noted that they presented the Peace Education Foundation syllabus to Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education hoping that in future peace education will be integrated into the Gambian education system.

“We signed (MOU) Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education to work with schools within the six (6) Regional Educational Directorate zone in the area of teaching peace education, organize peace programs and activities couple with peace trip to other schools as well a visit to public and private cooperation combine with peace talk show at radio stations for peace Education awareness,” he said.

He explained that they are working with 18 different schools in region Two that are in partnership with Family Gambia Peace Education program, namely; Sinchu Baliya,  Busumbala/ Farato, St. Peters  Wellingara, Kunkunjang Kietaya, Latriya, Sinchu Alagie, Nigerian Intl, Lamin Daranka, Yundum Barrack, Banjulinding and Old Yundum all from Region two comprising Lower and Upper Basic School.

He pointed out that organization have organized various  activities in schools on peace education, adding that they are hosting a radio programs on Hill Top radio to inform the public about the importance of peace education.

Fofana stressed that education is beyond ands not limited to teaching and learning in class rooms as many understood, but it is the process of providing with knowledge, skill, and competence by a formal course of study, introduction or training.
