The 4th edition of the WahSaHalat Awards, has unveiled the 2019 nominees of the wards is expected to award Gambian artistes, producers, media practitioners and sports personalities on 26th January 2019 at Kairaba Beach Hotel.
The WahSaHalat Award was initiated in 2015, and has consistently celebrated and recognised the efforts and contributions of The Gambia’s talented musicians, producers and other key actors in the music industry, including the media.
Sally Njie- Colley, chief executive officer of WahSaHalat Awards explained that their official platform for the unveiling of the final nominations for the 18 categories of the award this year.
He noted that it started in 2015 inspire by a radio show created in 2013 and this year they have some changes new category was added in the awards.
Francis Abdul Malick Mendy, a member of the jury committee said that: “The categories are eighteen and each of them have four to five nominees and it determine by the works of an individuals in the past years and it must be original contents”.
According to him, the new category People’s Choice award will go through the board through verification is totally going to be decided by voting public.
He added that the other category is activism award for to be given to artiste giving back to the society by using music to change the society; it is means for artistes to understand their social responsibility for speaking for the masses.
He emphasized that media is very vital in the music industry to propels the music industry into higher height.
