Global Forum Debates Yahya Jammeh’s Trial in Hague

Participants drawn from various Human Rights Organisations across the World are currently discussing and brainstorming on modalities of bringing former Gambian dictator Yahya Jammeh to justice, thus effectively ending culture of impunity in the World, especially Africa.

This information was sent to The Advocate, one of the Registered Civil Society Organisations in The Gambia by Africa Legal Aids and Center for Justice and Accountability as organizers of side events marking 17th Session of Assembly of State Parties to International Criminal Court (ICC), held in The Hague, Netherlands.

The text of the message reads; you are invited to participate in two compelling side events that AFLA will convene during the 17th Session of Assembly of State parties to the ICC and they are as follows;

1-Commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and a launch of special edition of the AFLA quarterly by the Attorney General of Ireland, Honorable Seamus Woulfe S.C.

That at side events, four ICC Judges will make brief presentations of their contributions in the quarterly, including an interview with Judge Howard Morrison by Evelyn A. Ankumah, which covered his work as a school teacher in northern Ghana, when he was 18 years old and how this has shaped his world view.

2- Complementarily in Action, bringing Yahya Jammeh to justice with Martin Kyere, the lone survivor of 2005 massacre of West African migrants, including 44 Ghanaians in The Gambia with provide personal and vivid account of what happened.

The invitation message added that, speakers at the occasion will include Attorney General of The Gambia, Hon. Abubacarr Tambedou, Fatoumatta Sandeng, daughter of the slain Gambian activist, Solo Sandeng.

Reed Brody, renowned for the role he played in supporting Chadian victims to bring Hissene Habre to justice. It added that Reed Brody will bring to the occasion his experience and expertise to the campaign of bringing Jammeh to justice in Ghana and William Nyarko, executive director of African Centre for International Law and Accountability, who doubled as key stakeholder in the Jammeh to Justice Ghana campaign.

Similar invitation extended to The Advocate, came from The Center for Justice and Accountability on the theme; pragmatic approach to universal jurisdiction on the same 2oth Anniversary of the Rome Statute that created International Criminal Court.
