Fellows wail over Traffic Congestion

A cross-section of people within the Kanifing Municipality have lamented over the perpetual traffic congestion which they said impede the transportation of goods and service.

A number of them who spoke to The Voice expressed their agony over the issue, and among them includes, Ebrima Joof, who is a van driver, said traffic congestion affects their businesses and that of other people especially during working days in the municipality.

“Many people find it difficult to reach to their work place due to traffic congestion, and also lack of good roads in the Greater Banjul Area,” he said.

As the road sides are parked with operational and unfunctioning cars along the Greater Banjul, he further added that this issue also contributes immensely to the congestion of the traffic.

He supplemented that: “Sometimes our passengers will go out of the car after weigh down due to the traffic congestion. In fact, some prefer to walk than using a commercial vehicle to travel to or from their home owing to the nightmare.”

Meanwhile, he called on the government to put up measures in controlling parking cars on the road sides to ease the problem.

Nyima Touray a student, when interrogated said the congestion of the traffic delays her education, “I find it difficult to reach to my school on time due to the traffic jam.”  She challenged the National Road Authority to find a solution to the problem.

Likewise, Landing Marong, also a commercial driver urged government to construct more roads in the country particularly in the Greater Banjul Area to minimize the traffic congestion.

Alpha Larkoh, ICT student said some times he spent about one hour on the road before getting a commercial vehicle to home or to work, adding that traffic jam delays his time because he always arrive late at his office.
