Lamin Manneh, Deputy Secretary External Affairs of the United Democratic Party (UDP), has threatened to expose Lawyer Assan Martin, if the latter continues to wage a war against his party.
In an interview with The Voice Newspaper on Tuesday, Manneh said, “we know a lot so he should keep quiet.”
“Martin is conflicted. He once told Lare Ceesay and me to be the flagbearer of the UDP. We were four in number when he revealed that. I told him if that was the agenda he should stop because it would not work. He tried to wage war against us and Darboe,” Manneh revealed.
He argued that Martin was conflicted and a coalition spokesperson should be neutral stressing that the matter involved members not a spokesperson.
“As a coalition spokesperson you cannot take sides. Martin is not honest in his job. He clearly said any political party which did not want to comply should vanish. Who is he to decide on what we should do? We have been keeping quiet for too long, but that will end now,” Manneh vowed.
Responding to critics over UDP’s withdrawal, Manneh maintained that some people were anti-UDP; whatever the party tried to initiate, someone would oppose it.
“We are the biggest party in the country. We can win the election alone. But we want teamwork to rescue the country. UDP wants a coalition with inclusion. It is due to the candidate led model that the country had to face this mess. President Barrow betrayed. That is why we won’t allow history to repeat itself,” he emphasized.
Manneh stressed the firm stance of UDP on the withdrawal from the coalition talks, describing Darboe as the most competent and committed candidate to salvage the country from President Barrow’s mal-governance.
