Gambian champions Medina United FC have departed The Gambia for Sierra Leone ahead of their CAF Champions League Preliminary Round first-leg encounter against Star Sport Academy FC.
Medina United are scheduled to face the Sierra Leonean side on Sept. 5, 2026, in Freetown as they begin their campaign in Africa’s premier club competition.
The Gambian champions qualified for the continental competition after securing the domestic league title and will now seek a positive result in the first leg to strengthen their chances of advancing to the next round.
The return leg will provide Medina United with an opportunity to complete the tie on home soil.
The club’s technical team and players are expected to focus on defensive organisation and efficient attacking play as they seek to gain an advantage against their West African opponents.
The encounter will mark Medina United’s latest appearance on the continental stage as they represent The Gambia in the CAF Champions League.
