Soccer Stars have secured the GFF FIFA U-17 Girls League Development crown after defeating LK Stars 1–0 in the final played at the Ousman Saho Football Field in Old Yundum.
A first-half strike from Isatou Janneh was enough to settle the contest, as Soccer Stars finished their campaign on a high note by lifting the championship trophy.
Janneh delivered the decisive moment in the 35th minute, capitalising on her opportunity to put Soccer Stars ahead in a closely fought battle. The goal gave her side a crucial advantage heading into the break.
LK Stars responded with efforts to get back into the game, but Soccer Stars remained disciplined at the back and successfully preserved their slender lead. Despite chances at both ends, neither team managed to add to the score, leaving Janneh’s goal as the difference.
The final brought together football administrators, coaches and women’s football representatives, who witnessed the young players showcase their talent in the development competition.
GFF Second Vice President Bakary Bojang and Fourth Vice President and Women’s Football Association President Sainabou Cham were among the dignitaries present. They were joined by Executive Board Member Jainaba Bah, General Secretary Lamin M. Jassey, Women’s Football Coordinators Philomina N. Jatta and Angelic Mendy, and Gambia Football Coaches Association President Kebba Touray.
Soccer Stars celebrated their achievement with the winners’ trophy and gold medals, while LK Stars collected silver medals as runners-up. Certificates were also presented to every participating team.
With the first phase now concluded, the GFF is preparing to take the development initiative beyond the Greater Banjul Area. The upcoming second phase is expected to involve teams from provincial Gambia, expanding opportunities for young girls to participate in organised football and develop their skills.
