The Gambia is set to benefit from the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) African Schools Football Championship Prize Money Programme, with new infrastructure projects planned for schools in Banjul.
CAF has announced that The Gambia is among several African countries scheduled to receive infrastructure projects funded through prize money from the CAF African Schools Football Championship.
According to CAF, the projects in Banjul will include the construction and improvement of dressing rooms and a borehole, providing important facilities to support school football and improve the learning environment for students.
The programme is designed to ensure that prize money from the African Schools Football Championship creates a lasting legacy beyond the football pitch, with investments directed towards education, sporting facilities and essential infrastructure.
CAF’s March 2026 update also highlighted previous investments in The Gambia, including a borehole at New Yundum School, dressing-room and facility upgrades at Scan Aid School, as well as football kits and training equipment for New Yundum Boys.
The planned Banjul handover is currently listed as “TBC” (to be confirmed), meaning CAF has yet to announce the official date for the ceremony.
The initiative further demonstrates the growing connection between schools by football, youth development and community infrastructure, giving young Gambian boys and girls improved opportunities to develop both on and off the field.
