The leader of the Gambia Action Party (GAP), Musa Ousainou Yali Bachilly, has called for what he described as transformational leadership ahead of The Gambia’s 5 December 2026 presidential election, saying the country needs more than political change to address its development challenges.
In an exclusive interview with The Voice newspaper, Mr. Bachilly said The Gambia was at a defining moment in its political history and urged voters to support leadership that prioritises national development, accountability and the welfare of citizens.
“The Gambia stands at a defining moment in its political history. Gambians deserve more than political change; they deserve transformational leadership that places national development above politics and the people above power,” he said.
Mr. Bachilly said his vision for the country is centred on accountability, national unity, youth empowerment, economic opportunity and people-centred governance.
He stressed the need to invest in young people, describing them as the country’s greatest resource.
“Our youths deserve opportunities, our women deserve empowerment, and every Gambian deserves a government that serves with integrity, purpose and compassion. The 2026 election is not simply about who governs for the next five years. It is about who will prepare The Gambia for the next fifty,” he said.
The GAP leader described himself as representing what he called a new generation of leadership committed to building a prosperous, united and dignified nation.
“The time for ordinary politics has passed. The time for transformational leadership has arrived,” he added.
Mr. Bachilly called on Gambians to support the leadership vision proposed by the Gambia Action Party, saying the party is committed to addressing the country’s socio-economic challenges by placing national interest above personal or political considerations.
He said the party’s objective is to promote policies aimed at improving the welfare of citizens and advancing sustainable national development.
