BANJUL, The Gambia — Gambian actress, model and humanitarian Rohey Camara has been unveiled as the new face and brand ambassador of Miliket Noodles in The Gambia, following the brand’s recent entry into the Gambian market.
The partnership brings together the entertainment personality and the international food brand as Miliket seeks to strengthen its presence among Gambian consumers.
Camara’s appointment follows the recent launch of Miliket Noodles in The Gambia, which also featured the introduction of the Miliket Show, a promotional programme organised under Jendalma-JBCN involving Gambian and Senegalese entertainment personalities.
The launch included a consumer promotion offering prizes, including a trip to Dubai, an iPhone 17 and cash rewards of up to D200,000.
Camara, popularly known as “Rohey The Actress”, has built a career spanning acting, modelling, film production and humanitarian activities.
She began her entertainment career at the age of 13 and later auditioned for a role in The Mirror Boy, a 2011 Nigerian-Gambian co-production directed by Obi Emelonye. The film featured Nigerian actors Genevieve Nnaji and Osita Iheme.
She subsequently appeared in a number of Gambian and West African productions, including Love Confusion, Beyond Greed, Banjul My Love, Double Bomb, Twisted Mind, Hidden Fantasy and Mébét.
Mébét, a Wolof-language drama addressing child marriage, premiered at Ebunjan Theatre in January 2020.
Camara has also worked with Nigerian actors including Yul Edochie and John Dumelo. In May 2020, she was reported to have been the most-searched Gambian celebrity on Nollywood-related searches.
She made her debut as a film producer with Beyond Greed, which premiered in February 2018, and later co-founded the production company Linguere with her cousin, actress and producer Yamou Mbye.
Camara currently serves as Managing Director of Afri-Music Entertainment.
Her work has earned her industry recognition, including a Best Supporting Female Actress award in 2016 and a Best Actress nomination in 2018.
Before establishing herself in the entertainment industry, Camara hosted “The Attaya Show” on Unique FM and worked in marketing and modelling at Digest Publication.
Humanitarian activities
Beyond entertainment, Camara has been involved in initiatives supporting women, children and the creative sector.
In 2020, she participated in a UNESCO-supported ResiliArt discussion on the impact of COVID-19 on The Gambia’s arts and culture sector.
She has also served as a brand ambassador for the Support Our Own Gambia Foundation, which promotes Gambian-made products and local creative entrepreneurship.
Camara said her new partnership with Miliket comes at a period of personal and professional renewal.
In announcing the appointment, she spoke about a journey of healing, self-discovery and renewed confidence, while highlighting plans for an upcoming film project, entrepreneurial ventures and her plus-size fashion label, Jatta Musso.
The fashion initiative, she said, is intended to create opportunities for women.
The Miliket partnership adds a new dimension to Camara’s career as she continues to combine acting, film production, fashion, entrepreneurship and brand partnerships.
The collaboration is expected to form part of Miliket’s promotional activities as the noodle brand expands its operations in The Gambia.
