The National Roads Authority (NRA) on Tuesday signed two road maintenance contracts aimed at improving deteriorated road infrastructure in Kuntaya and Banni Village in the North Bank Region.
The contracts were awarded to Smateq Construction and Pinnacle Group JV Heritage Holdings.
Under the agreements, Pinnacle Group JV Heritage Holdings will construct the Kuntaya Triple Cell Culverts, while Smateq Construction will handle the Five Cell Culverts project in Banni Village.
The interventions follow reported structural challenges in the affected areas, which have disrupted movement and access for residents and commuters.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, NRA Managing Director Sulayman Sumareh Janneh said the selection of contractors was based on merit and previous performance.
He said the projects are intended to improve road accessibility, which he described as essential to economic and social activity.
Janneh noted that heavy stormwater flows have, in some instances, rendered sections of the roads inaccessible, affecting travel to workplaces, schools, markets, and health facilities.
He urged the contractors to maintain professionalism and ensure timely and effective completion of the works.
The NRA said the projects form part of its ongoing efforts to improve road connectivity and transport infrastructure across the country.
