GID, AMAC Sign MOU To Strengthen Migration Management

The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) and the African Migratory Advisory Centre (AMAC) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing migration management, data collection and awareness on irregular migration.

The signing ceremony was held at the GID Headquarters in Banjul and presided over by the Director General of the Gambia Immigration Department, Mr. Ebrima Mboob.

AMAC is an organization focused on promoting effective migration governance through real-time data collection, migration education, advocacy and public awareness campaigns designed to address irregular migration.

Speaking at the ceremony, AMAC Founder, Mr. Adrian Corish, described the agreement as a significant milestone in strengthening cooperation on migration issues. He said the partnership would improve real-time data collection on missing migrants and expand access to reliable migration information, adding that such efforts are essential to restoring dignity and hope to affected families and communities in The Gambia.

For his part, Director General Mboob commended AMAC for its commitment to supporting migration management initiatives. He stressed that effective migration governance depends on strong partnerships and reaffirmed the GID’s readiness to work with relevant stakeholders to curb irregular migration across the country’s borders.

The event concluded with the formal signing of the MoU, marking what both institutions described as a renewed commitment to collaboration in improving migration information systems and supporting efforts to track missing migrants.
