Hon. Gibbi Mballow a lawmaker has urged young people to embrace digital skills and leadership as key tools for national development.
The Member of Parliament for Lower Fulladou West, Central River Region South, made the remarks recently when he addressed the Brikama North Youths 2026 Convergence held in Kassa-Kunda under the theme: “Building Leaders and Empowering Minds: Creating Digital Entrepreneurs.”
Hon. Mballow said the gathering reflected a shared commitment to investing in young people, describing them as both “the hope of today and the architects of tomorrow.”
He notes that the world is currently experiencing rapid technological transformation, adding that the digital economy is now a reality shaping how people live, learn, work, and create value.
“In this changing world, young people must be prepared not only to participate but to lead,” he said.
The lawmaker stresses that leadership is measured by impact rather than titles, adding that it requires innovation, courage, and continuous learning.
He encouraged the youth to develop digital skills such as coding, digital marketing, e-commerce, and content creation, saying these are essential for unlocking opportunities and building sustainable enterprises.
“Digital entrepreneurship is more than a career path; it is a solution to unemployment and a catalyst for economic growth,” he said.
Hon. Mballow further called on policymakers and stakeholders to strengthen access to training, mentorship, financing, and digital infrastructure, while ensuring inclusivity for young women and rural communities.
He urged the youth to be proactive and resilient, saying they should start with available resources and grow gradually rather than waiting for perfect conditions.
“The future is not something we wait for; it is something we create,” he said, calling on young people to take charge of their development.
