The Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Joseph Colley, on Thursday urged aspiring political parties to fulfil all legal requirements for registration.

Colley made the call while declaring open a two-day training workshop on combating fake news and misinformation in the electoral process.

He also advised existing political parties to comply with relevant electoral laws to maintain their status as bona fide registered parties. He noted that the Commission remains available to provide clarification on registration procedures and related processes.

The workshop was organised ahead of the supplementary voter registration exercise scheduled from 1 April to 14 May 2026. It brought together representatives of political parties, civil society organisations, the media, security services, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the IEC and other stakeholders.

Colley reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to executing its mandate in accordance with the law. He said the IEC would continue to uphold the rule of law, accountability and fairness in the discharge of its duties.

He assured the electorate and stakeholders of the Commission’s determination to deliver free, fair, transparent, inclusive and credible elections in The Gambia.
