Karamo Njie, Senior official of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) has called on party supporters to actively engage voters through dialogue ahead of the country’s presidential election.
Mr. Njie, who is the Public Relations Officer of UDP for North Bank Region was speaking during an interview with The Voice on Thursday.
He also urged other opposition parties to collaborate with the UDP, which he described as the largest opposition political party, in efforts to unseat President Adama Barrow in the December 2026 presidential election.
He said his party would continue outreach efforts aimed at convincing other opposition groups to join a broader alliance to achieve political change.
Njie referenced findings from CepRASS survey, which he said indicated that opposition parties could collectively secure more votes than the incumbent if elections were held under current conditions. He stressed the need for compromise and sustained dialogue among political actors, adding that the survey highlighted areas where the UDP must improve and should not be dismissed.
“Therefore, I urge all party supporters to engage non-UDP supporters in offices, neighbourhoods, garages and other gatherings to help them understand the direction the country is taking and what is required to earn their trust and confidence,” Njie said.
He further called on political stakeholders to avoid misrepresenting the status of coalition discussions and to recognise what he described as the UDP’s viability as a vehicle for political change. According to him, the party’s performance in National Assembly, chairmanship, mayoral and councillorship elections demonstrates its continued political strength.
“We are the largest opposition party in the country. I encourage other parties seeking change to join us. Together, we can change the direction of the country,” he added.
Njie expressed confidence that the UDP would win the upcoming presidential election and assured that the party would remain committed to any coalition partners.
