The Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG) has arrested several suspects, including a Norwegian and Gambian national, for alleged possession of suspected cocaine and other prohibited drugs, the agency said on Monday.
DLEAG said 43-year-old Pa Kawsu Jobe of Sanyang Village was arrested on Jan 3 in possession of 15 stones and other quantities of suspected crack cocaine concealed in an old newspaper.
A Norwegian national, 26-year-old Gavanes Kalathar Ganesan, a resident of Sanchaba, was arrested on Jan 4 with suspected cocaine hidden in a plastic bag and an ash-coloured cross bag.
The agency also reported multiple arrests linked to suspected cannabis-related substances across the country.
On Jan 2, Hazimou Jallow, a 49-year-old Guinean national from Conakry residing in Jinack, was arrested with 21 bundles of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in cement paper and flour bags. On the same day, Ebrima Sarr, 42, and Modou Camara, 27, both from Latri Kunda, were arrested with two bundles and 35 parcels of suspected cannabis sativa.
Other suspects arrested include Kalifa Badjie, 37, of Bayanka Village, found with two bundles of suspected cannabis sativa; Sheriffo Dahaba, 19, of Old Yundum, arrested at the Banjul Ferry Terminal with one bundle of suspected cannabis sativa; and Musa Sanyang, 31, of Mariama Kunda, also found with one bundle of suspected cannabis sativa.
DLEAG further said Saidou Jobe, 32, of Bakoteh, was arrested with three small bags containing 207 pieces of suspected cannabis ruderalis, while Jerreh Manneh, 19, of Jambur, was found with 27 wraps of suspected kush.
Alieu Jabang, 20, of Bijilo, was arrested with 24 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa and three small bags of suspected cannabis ruderalis, while Ousman Sanyang, 19, of Sanyang Village, was found with seven wraps of suspected cannabis sativa and 15 pieces of suspected cannabis ruderalis.
Demba Darboe, 24, of Manjai Kunda, was arrested with 32 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa; Omar Kanteh, 29, of Dippakunda, with eight wraps of suspected kush; and Kebba Manneh, 45, of Sukuta, with 45 pieces of suspected cannabis resin (hashish).
All suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue, DLEAG said
