Shine Light for Girls’ Education, a local non-governmental organisation, has donated educational materials to students under its sponsorship.

The ceremony, held on Saturday at the regional governor’s office in Brikama, brought together students and their parents under the theme: Empowering Girls, Honouring Mothers: A Legacy of Strength and Education.”

Ebrima Njie, founder of Shine Light for Girls’ Education, emphasized the vital role of single mothers in society, stressing that empowering and supporting them should be a collective responsibility. He announced that 72 packages of learning materials will be distributed to sponsored girls across the Lower River Region, Central River Region, Kanifing Municipality, and West Coast Region.

“We believe girls in The Gambia should not be left behind because of their gender. Over the years, Shine Light has not only provided educational supplies but also created a sense of dignity and belonging. We have built bridges between Germany and The Gambia, linking opportunities to dreams,” Njie said, acknowledging the strong support of the organisation’s German board.

Tijan Fadera, regional coordinator for Shine Light, urged communities to turn the challenges faced by women and girls into opportunities that can empower them to become job creators.

Other speakers, including Lamin Jammeh of the Africa Youth Commission, Adama Jallow representing NGOs, Adama Jarju of Yakarr Football Academy, and Alagie M. Cham from TANGO, also underscored the importance of supporting girls’ education and empowering women.
