Police investigations into suspected online scammers have taken a major turn following the identification of the suspects as Chinese nationals, sources revealed over the weekend.
According to police sources, the confirmation of their nationality was made possible with the support of officials from the Chinese Embassy in Banjul. The suspects were later escorted to their residence in Kerr Sering, where a comprehensive search was conducted.
Recovered items included 32 Android phones (Motorola and Redmi brands), 112 iPhones, 153 desktop computers, two boxes containing additional desktop units, a flat-screen television, a Lenovo laptop, a safe, as well as various computer accessories such as keyboards, exercise books, computer mice, USB drives, and a number of non-Gambian SIM cards. Police say investigations into the matter are still on-going.
