The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) has resumed issuing of Machine Readable Passport (MRP) following a stoppage due to technical challenges.

The GID made the announcement yesterday through its Public Relations Officer, Inspector Siman Lowe. He revealed that the department had technical challenges that affected the production of the MRP for Gambians living abroad. But, he said the department restarted the printing of passports on 12th May 2025.

According to him, during the past week, a total of five hundred passports, backlogged since March 2025, have been successfully printed.

The department added that applicants whose files were approved and issued a passport were advised to visit the passport delivery office and pick up their passports. For those individuals who  submitted their applications through Gambian missions abroad, theirs would be dispatched to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for onward delivery.

“While we accept the inevitable operational challenges leading to unavoidable delays, the GID remains resolved to prioritising the needs of all Gambians, particularly those living abroad, and recognises the importance of proper documentation in the regularisation of immigration status,” the department added.

The passport office reassured that the staff was working tirelessly to clear all pending passport files submitted for production.
