The Gambia Police Force (GPF) said the reported robbery at the Yonna Microfinance office in Kalagi village was staged to conceal financial mismanagement.

According to police, Amadou Jawo, 28, was found tied up inside his office on Friday, 25th April, 2025. He was initially taken to Sintet Health Center before being referred to Bwiam General Hospital, where medical examinations revealed no injuries.

Police investigations established that Jawo orchestrated the incident to cover up the misappropriation of D140,000. According to the police report, he was aided by Alieu Sanyang of Kalagi, who is currently at large.

The police said Jawo “is now in custody and cooperating with investigators”.

Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend Sanyang, they added.

In a statement, the GPF assured the public of its commitment to upholding the law and urged anyone with information, regarding Sanyang’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.
