Operatives of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG) stationed at the Banjul International Airport (BIA) have arrested a Gambian citizen from Switzerland with suspected cannabis resin.
Airport DLEAG has arrested in addition to this, many individuals who attempted to smuggle different drug variants through the airport.
According to the latest released statement from DLEAG on Sunday, a “45 years Abubacarr Njie, a Gambia who was on his way from Switzerland, was arrested by DLEAG airport command on the 7th September 2024 at around 02:30 hours GMT onward with (60) blocks of suspected cannabis resin (hashish) that he concealed in black and blue luggage wrapped with cling fling nylon respectively. Abubacarr board Air Royal Maroc via Spain, Casablanca, and then Banjul International Airport.” DLEAG revealed in a statement issued on Sunday, September 8th, 2024.
Among individuals who had prohibited drugs arrested by the DLEAG included Omar Jobe, 39, a businessman resident of Serrekunda was arrested by operatives of DLEAG station at Senegambia on 6th September 2024 at around 22:28 hours GMT onward with 50 pills of ecstasy concealed in a transparent nylon bag.
Maurice Valentin Sambou 32, a Senegalese residing in Pikinewas arrested by Banjul DLEAG at the ferry terminal on the 6th of September 2024 at around noon onward with some quantities of suspected skunk and 8 stones of crystal that he concealed in a black handbag.
30-year-old Joseph Chery, a Gambian engineer by profession was arrested by Kairaba DLEAG station on the 7th of September 2024 at around 02:00 hours GMT onward with 15 pieces of suspected cocaine (crystal) which is concealed in foil papers and placed inside a transparent bag respectively.
“20 years old Kabba Tambedou a resident of Bansang and a student was arrested by Janjanbureh DLEAG station at YBK checkpoint on the 5th September 2024 at around 16:00 hours GMT onward with 15 pills of ecstasy in a transparent nylon bag, yellow nylon bag and placed inside a black nylon bag respectively.
The statement continued that Alieu Jobe, 34 resident of Sukutawas arrested by Senegambia DLEAG station on the 6th of September 2024 at around 20:38 hours GMT onward with 8 pills of ecstasy which were concealed in tissue papers and placed inside a transparent nylon bag.
Also stated in the statement that Basse Station arrested a child offender during a routine inspection, the child offender, whose name is withheld, is 15 and a resident of Basse he was arrested by Basse DLEAG at Kabakama on the 6th September 2024 at around 16:34 hours GMT onward with 7 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in white papers.
In a similar engagement but in different places, BrikamaDLEAG station found 2 big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa on the 6th of September 2024 at around 16:00 hours GMT onward with 2 big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa kept in cement papers and further placed in red and black bag pack with a motorbike with registration number MC WCR 0051B.
Lamin Sey, 37, an artist and resident of Coastal Road, Mustapha Corr, 37, a waiter and a resident of Latrikunda Sabiji, and Abdoulie Njie, 33, a welder and a resident of New Jeshwangwere arrested by Bundung DLEAG at Latri Kunda Sabiji on the 6th September 2024 at around 19:08 hours GMT onward with 12 pieces of suspected cocaine, 4 pieces of suspected cannabis resin and 2 pills of ecstasy that were concealed in a yellow and transparent nylon bag further placed inside a tissue paper packet respectively.
Pape Keita, 22, a Senegalese tailor was arrested by AmdalaiDLEAG station on the 7th of September 2024 at around 10:30 hours GMT onward with 25 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in cement papers and placed inside his pocket, 27-year-old Abdou Aziz Ndoye also a Senegalese resident in Kaolack was arrested by Amdalai DLEAG station on the 7th September 2024 at around 10:39 hours GMT onward with 10 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa which is concealed in cement papers and placed inside a multi-coloured nylon bag with a motorcycle respectively.
Ebrima Jarra, 29 from Dippa Kunda, and a driver arrested by Tallinding DLEAG station on the 6th September 2024 at around 22:50 hours GMT onward with (26) pills of ecstasy and (1) wrap of cannabis resin concealed in a transparent nylon bag and placed inside a black sock.
19 years old Omar Cham, a resident of Sukuta and a driver by profession was arrested by Serrekunda DLEAG station on the 7th September 2024 at around 12:05 hours GMT onward with (10) parcels of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in white papers and placed inside a multi -coloured bag.
More so, 43-year-old Basirou Jah residing in Brufut and a driver by profession was arrested by Brusubi DLEAG station on the 6th of September 2024 at around 12:30 hours GMT onward with 73 parcels and some quantities of suspected cannabis sativa kept in white papers and placed inside a multi-coloured nylon bag with a cash amount of One hundred and eighty-four thousand, three hundred dalasis which is believed to be proceeds of the illicit drug business.
Also, Amie Ceesay, 24, a resident of Lamin and a businesswoman was arrested by New Yundum DLEAG station on the 7th of September 2024 at around 20:40 hours GMT onward with (60) pills and (4) broken pills of ecstasy hidden in a green and white coloured transparent plastic bag with 100 Euro note which is believed to be a proceed of the illicit drug trade.
Omar Ceesay 24, a resident of Manneh Kunda was arrested by Basse DLEAG station at Mansajang on the 8th September 2024 at around 02:29 hours GMT onward with 1 parcel and 2 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa in white papers and placed inside a blue suitcase.
All the suspects are currently in custody as the investigation continues.
