Farmers look up to gov’t for more fertilizer subsidies

Scores of farmers in North Bank Region (NBR) have hailed the government for providing fertilizer subsidies while calling for more in the coming farming season.

Speaking to Voice Newspaper in an interview held in Njaba Kunda, Chief Alagie Jagne a community leader and a renowned farmer expressed delight that all monies owed to groundnut farmers in Central Badibou were all paid by GGC and AGIB.  He noted that fertilizer subsidy contributed greatly in boostingup farming activities and so called for more during the coming farming season. He also commended government for increasing farmgateprice of ground nut from D32,000 to D38, 000per metric ton. Commenting on bushfire, Central Badibou Chief reiterated his district tribunal court commitment to the protection and preservation of forest cover and to allow grazing areas for livestock. 

Also speaking to Voice, was Alagie Touray anexecutive member of Ndimbalente Multi-Purpose Agricultural Cooperative Society of Maka Farafenni of Upper Badibou. He said the main aim of his society is geared towards supporting government in promoting Agribusiness, environmental protection, women and youth empowerment. He called on government to consider reduction of fertilizer price to enable many farmers to buy. He hailed government for the 2023 farming season intervention which was very helpful.

For her part, Fatou Touray, a vegetable producer called on Department of Agriculture to provide them with vegetable gardens to enable women and youths in her area to take up vegetable production to enhance their income and address rural urban and illegal migrations.
