A Gambian national Duwa Badgie was shot by Senegalese soldiers at the Gambia/Senegal border on Thursday, said the Foni Bintang Karanai representative in the National Assembly Bakary Y. Badgie.
“One of our guys was shot by the Senegalese soldiers on Thursday night [at]around 10 pm. He was coming from Kanilai going to Kafutang when he was seriously shot inone of his legs and dragged to their camp,” NAM Badgie told The Voice.

According to him, Duwa is a resident of the border village of Gilanfari. He explained that the Senegalese soldiers usually visit homes in the Gilanfari area to lend cooking utensils and tools but added that Duwa Badgienever entertained them in his compound.

“His refusal [to entertain them] made the Senegalese soldiers lay an ambush for him and shot him. This happened on our very [own] soil and not in Senegal, which is very sensitive. The man [Duwa] is my mobilizer. He was always with me. He is a Gambian and was shot right on the Gambian soil and dragged to Senegal,” NAM Badgie explained.

According to him, the soldiers didn’t take Duwa straight to the hospital despite his condition, adding that he was instead dragged to their camp to spend the night there which, he described, as “very serious”, considering the risk of toxic infection.

“We’ve received information that he is currently at the Ziguinchor hospital but in a critical condition. The Gambian soldiers went to see him but were denied access to him,” Badgie said.
