A young woman Aja Jagne was yesterday arraigned at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on suspicion of stealing money at Kololi Apartment.

Chike Dominic Okonji on Wednesday told the KanifingMagistrates’ Court that he was approached by Aja at Reo’s Club in Senegambia on 7 December 2023, requesting whether he could pay her bills. Okonji said the woman told him that she was broke and could not pay her bills. He said he informed Aja that he could give her D2500. Okonji explained to the court that Aja and her friend followed him to Kololi Apartment, where he was lodged. He said the two spent 20 minutes there, adding that he was unable to find his 370 pounds and D5000 when he woke the next morning. Okonji said he telephoned Aja’s friend, who later helped him to take the suspect to a police station after the friend denied any knowledge of the alleged stolen money.

Aja denied any wrongdoing and was granted D75,000 court bail. She must also provide two Gambian sureties as part of her bail conditions.
