The Gambia shines at SITA Conakry 2023

The Gambia contingent to the just concluded 9th edition of the International African Textile Salon (SITA) 2023 has raised the country’s flag higher at the weeklong event featuring 42 countries around Africa.

The Gambia to this exciting event held in Conakry comprised of fashion designers, textile artists, and models with full support from the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC), and the event kicked started 6th and ended on 11th of November 2023.

The 9th edition of SITA so far has been the biggest and most successful since its establishment nine years ago. 

During the Festival, experts reflected on the importance of labeling, Marketing, and Promotion of African Textiles beyond Africa. They also emphasized the fight against piracy in the African textile industry.

Both the opening and closing ceremonies were graced by the Prime Minister of Guinea Conakry and some Cabinet Ministers, Including international media. 

The Gambian delegation headed by Sainey M. Ceesay, Head of Marketing for NCAC led the participation of the team in the official parade, conference, trade expo, e-Commerce master class, and modeling master class. 

Among the delegation were Yaws Creation, Musa Balla Ceesay, a Gambian artist whose material were used in the movie ‘’The Woman King’’, and representatives of Gambian tailors.

The NCAC thanked the orgainsers of SITA for their strong commitment to supporting Gambian fashion and textile industries, while the participants also acknowledged the strong support and exposure that NCAC has afforded to the Gambian artists who attended.
