The Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) said illegal structures built around the Bakoteh dumpsite have blocked the waterway,which compounded the problem of accessibility to the landfill for waste disposal.
The council, however, said it has deployed every resource at its disposal; financial, human and material to address the problem, adding that the issue has slowed down the rate of waste collection in the municipality during the past weeks.
“In the meantime, the council is working with partners such as the Brikama Area Council for access to dumping at Tambana as a temporary measure until a long-term solution is secured.
It may interest the public to know that plans are at an advanced stage in collaboration with our international partners to solve the Bakoteh dumpsite issue permanently,” the council said
Therefore, the council craves the indulgence of the general public during these difficult times.
