Modou Lamin Ndow now awaits judgment day for stealing items worth over D1.4 million

Modou Lamin Ndow who was convicted on Wednesday, 2nd August 2023 of stealing items worth over 1.4 Million Dalasi is now awaiting his judgment day at Brikama Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Ebou Sowe.

At the initial stage of the proceedings, the accused ModouLamin Ndow pleaded not guilty to the two (2) counts of theft which led to his prosecution.

However, on Wednesday prosecutor ASP Oley Bobb affirmed to the court that Modou Lamin Ndow (accused) stole the jewelry of Sheriff Muhammed Lamin Jarju and Abibatu Saidy worth D 1,436,700, she also said accused Modou Lamin Ndow sold some of the jewelry and spent part of the money to buy a Vehicle, two mobile phones, two suitcases, ten pairs of shoes, nine pairs of socks, two Bluetooth speakers, two packets of boxers, four tea cups among many others.

Prosecutor Bobb presented to the court D42,000 that was recovered from the accused Modou Lamin Ndow before she applied for the items, cautionary and voluntary statements to be admitted and marked as exhibits which was granted.

The accused, Modou Lamin Ndow stumbled in his response to the facts narrated by prosecutor Bobb but he was quick to acknowledge the facts presented by the prosecution saying, ”The facts were accurate”.

Magistrate Sowe, before granting an adjournment, recalled Modou Lamin Ndow’s (accused) inconsistent appearance at the court and said the accused was absent in the court on three occasions.  

”Modou Lamin Ndow is hereby found guilty of two counts of theft and I shall adjourn the matter for judgment’, Magistrate Sowe ruled.

Meanwhile, according to the charge Modou Lamin Ndow on the 18th January 2022 at Brufut in the West Coast Region of the Republic of the Gambia stole fiscal cash of $15,800 equivalent to D 948,000, two pieces of a gold set of jewelry of $4000 equivalent to D 240,000, Gucci purse valued $ $1079 equivalent to D 64,740, ado purse valued $60 equivalent to D 3,600, silver crystal necklace valued at $33 equivalent to D 1,980, two apple laptop Mac Book Air ‘X2’ all valued $ 1,200 equivalent to D 72,000, apple ear pod valued $ 250 equivalent to D 15,000, apple watch valued $438 equivalent to D 26,280, two MK watch valued $350 equivalent to D 21,000, male diamond watch $445 equivalent to D 26,700, 11 male designer perfume valued $250 equivalent to D 15,000 and apple charger valued $40 equivalent to D 2,400, all totaled to D 1.436,700 being the properties of Sheriff Muhammed Lamin Jarju and Abibatu Saidy.
