National People’s Party’s (NPP) mayoral candidate for the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) in the upcoming Local Government elections, on Tuesday, 25th April 2023 began a three days caravan visit across the KMC.

Hon Bakary Y Badjie who is also the country’s current Sports Minister on his first day of the caravan visit, started from his community, Ebo Town, through to Talinding, Latrikunda, Abuko, Tabokoto, and Kainifing.

Speaking to members of the Press before the commencement of the visit on Tuesday afternoon said his first mandate into office after being elected will be to empower the economic strength of youth and women within the Municipality.

He also promised to, close most of the developmental gaps in KMC, by creating job opportunities and supporting people with their basic needs.

“I want to address the most difficult need of the people which is the lack of good feeder roads, proper markets, supporting community basic needs such as an extension of water, electricity, and access to recreational facilities for the young people,” he promised.

Hon Badjie reacting to the recent councillorship election in which the NPP lost most of the seats in the KMC, said, that is a wake-up call for his party. Adding that the number of votes his party – NPP got in the past presidential election signifies that the majority of the people are in support of his party.

He spoke on strategies that can be done to bring change in this local government election, saying “we are going to make sure that people get the message and know that the time for change is now.”
